New revision is out!

We are pleased to announce the publication of a new revision of the ugBASIC USER MANUAL. This book is interesting if you want to discover how to apply modern programming techniques to retro computers, and it is essential if you want to use ugBASIC to its fullest.

This version includes numerous corrections and updates to ensure increasingly accurate and complete documentation. It is strongly recommended that you consult the new version of the manual to take full advantage of the potential of ugBASIC. For best results, it is recommended that you update your ugBASIC compiler to the latest version available.

ugBASIC is inspired to BASIC, one of the first programming language for many of the first consoles and computers, and one of the easiest. It is an easy-to-learn language, perfect for both beginners and those who are not. With ugBASIC you can create a wide range of games, all with the ease of BASIC and the speed of assembly for a very  large collection of retro computers.

... and, if you are interested, don't miss "3 Easy Pieces"!

Hi, a quick question. I checked it quite some time ago and everything looked really great. I just wondered if you have a "full pack" that doesnt require an internet connection and comes with everything installed b/c what i remember is it installs and then downloads stuff on demand which , to my needs sadly doesnt work out well.

Just asking , great stuff btw

Hi Catham, and thank you very much for the comment and the compliments! :)

Regarding your question, I assume you are talking about UGBASIC-IDE
To answer better, however, I would need to know a little more about the context.

If you mean the possibility of working completely offline, at the moment it is not possibile. However, it will certainly be an improvement that I will introduce in one of the next revisions, together with the possibility of downloading everything in a single solution (i.e. a "full pack").

If you mean that the problem is more than anything else the download of the components, rather than the fact of working offline, it is already possible to get to something similar. First, go to File > Preferences > Software Updates, and disable any "version control". This will stop the wizard from appearing in case of an update, and UGBASIC-IDE to check for updates.

Second, go to the installation page, and download the complete package of all the compilers. You have to click on the version of your operating system, click on the BINARIES button, then on the MAIN button, and click on DOWNLOAD ALL COMPILERS. At that point you can unzip them and put them wherever you want.

Now open the IDE, go to Configuration > Compilers... and then click on the "folder" icon next to those targets you are interested in. A requester should come out, with which you can point to the file in the location where you unzipped it. When you are done click on SAVE

You can do the same with the programs in the toolchain, just go to Configuration > Toolchains... and repeat the procedure. These programs can be found on the Internet, if the ones in UGBASIC-IDE do not work for some reason.

I hope this workaround can help you.

Thank you again, and have a nice day!

now thats what i call a useful reply , thanks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i'll definitely check that sometime this week

Hi Catham, and thank you for your feedback! Please, you should be so kind as to download again the IDE: I made a fix that avoids showing the Wizard, if you choose not to check for any kind of update. Thank you again, and happy retrocoding!
